We are not your typical home-stay family. We have been a host family to over 20 international students from 12 different countries since 2002. They typically live with us for the length of their stay in the Evanston community - from 3 months to 4 years, and it's been an excellent experience for everyone!
Our wonderful "rental kids" have been accepted to some of the finest institutions, including Northwestern, the University of Chicago, Carleton College, Carnegie Mellon, Macalester College, the University of Michigan, Hamilton College, Wellesley College, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), University of Illinois Engineering, New York University, John's Hopkins, Technion of Israel, Oberlin College, Eastman School of Music, Case Western, University of Rochester and more.
Our home is filled with music, art, theater, experiential learning, and jokes at the dinner table. We work hard to help our students strike a balance between academics, extracurriculars, social, and the reality of interweaving a whole new culture into their own rich and wonderful backgrounds - all while engaging in a foreign language. Almost all of our students have stayed actively in contact as they move thru college, grad school, or onto their careers, residencies, fellowships or back to their home countries. Many of them come back to stay with us for extended visits.
We live 2 kilometers from Lake Michigan and Northwestern University, 1 km from the CTA/RTA to Chicago, 5 km from Chicago in a vibrant University town, in a large three-bedroom Loft in a very cool industrial building.
If you are looking for a quiet place to study and stay or a warm family to offer a cup of tea and cookies when you are studying or a few words of encouragement or maybe a quick trip to a local grocer who carries some specialties from your home country, then we look forward to talking to you.
